The Shiitake mushroom is the most well-known edible mushroom in the world. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Shiitake mushrooms were prescribed for longevity and improving overall health. It was primarily used to maintain health, strengthen muscles and improve circulation. Shiitake was also used to cure colds and help reduce blood cholesterol.
Shiitake has also been investigated as a potential treatment for metabolic syndrome and cancer prevention. It has antimicrobial properties and recently was found to be useful for the treatment of Dermatitis because of its nutritional value and pharmacological activities.
