Tremella fuciformis is also known as “Yiner” or “Baimuer” in China. It has been consumed for millenia in China and other East Asia countries for improving health and longevity and beauty.
The Tremella fuciformis polysaccharide (TFPS) has been discovered to be one of the most important bioactive components in Tremella. Although most applications are still in the early stages of development, there are several clinical studies on TFPS’s pharmacological activities, including immunomodulatory effects, prevention and treatment of cancer, antioxidant activity, reducing blood sugar, controlling body fat, and improving cognitive functions including brain health. More recently Tremella has begun to be used in skincare products because it provides skin hydration and reduces wrinkles.
