Lets Talk About Expiration Dates
The testing done that determines the potency of a product(for example “2 years”), does not mean that the product will remain potent for just two years. It means only that the product has been tested to assure its safety and potency for at least two years. In fact, a product may be potent for many more years but still have an expiration date that is only two or three years.
The Role of Good Packaging on Expiration Dates
Our products have been safely stored in optimal conditions. Our warehouse is climate controlled for controlled stability of all our products.
What Can Degrade a Product?
- Light. Excess exposure to our energy-dense sunlight can destroy an active compound.
- Temperature. Like small children in the summer, chemicals break down in the heat.
- Humidity. The number one killer of a chemical is water. Water is constantly attacking and breaking apart chemicals in a process called hydrolysis.
- The packaging. The bottle, jar, or bag the product is in will often allow some level of heat, light, and moisture in, this is why we use the best packaging for all our products, to ensure stability.
Most drugs/supplements are still potent after expiration when stored appropriately.
An expired supplement will have potency that’s more than acceptable despite being past expiration.
CBD oil has been tested to have up to 2 year shelf life. Although our products are past the label date by 7 months, they will stillcarry a ‘healing punch’ for over a year and a half. You can extend the life of your CBD oil by keeping it in a cool location.
While it’s not necessary to store your CBD oil in the fridge, it’s a good idea to do so if you buy in bulk or don’t use it everyday. Essentially, if you don’t expect to use up the product within a few months, consider storing it in the fridge.
Keep in mind, storing CBD hemp oil in the fridge thickens it up. For tinctures, oils, or other liquid-y CBD products, that maymake it harder to dispense.
A 2016 study from the Centre for Pharmacognosy and Phyto therapy found that the cannabinoid content does change over time, however, they called the changes “moderate”, at under 10%.
**(Almost no products will degrade into something that will harm you other than: Antibiotics, Insulin, and in general, any hormone and Nitroglycerin, blood thinners, arrhythmia medicine. Never, ever use these drugs past their expiration date).
