What is Tremella?
Tremella fuciformis, also known as “Yiner” or “Baimuer” in China, belongs to the Tremellales group and the Tremellaceae family, which has been consumed for many years in China and other East Asia countries for improving health and longevity. Despite the fact that they discovered it in Brazil, it has become one of the most commonly produced mushroom species in China and other Asian regions. It is a very common fungus and is found easily on the deciduous branches of broad-leaved trees in tropical and subtropical areas. It’s white or mostly transparent, and it’s rather large (up to 7 cm across), with beautiful gelatinous lobes [1].
Tremella fuciformis polysaccharide (TFPS) has been discovered as one of the most important bioactive components in Tremella fuciformis [2]. Although most applications are still in the early stages of development, there are several clinical studies on TFPS’s pharmacological activities, including immunomodulatory effects, prevention and treatment of cancer, antioxidant activity, reducing blood sugar, controlling body fat, improving cognitive functions and brain health, and finally, it is found that it can be used in skin care products because it is found to improve skin hydration and reduce wrinkles.
